AHA... OH YEAH'S... & YEAH BUTS from the reading :)

Aha..
I really liked the part in the text book that talks about how in a differentiated classroom the teacher sets her own sights high, just like she asks her students to set their sights high. A teacher that differentiates instruction is constantly striving to improve and do better, for each individual student. I think as a teacher it would be easy to think “I have so many kids that struggle but I am doing the very best I can”. She is always trying new things to help kids learn but at the same time teachers need to realize that they aren’t perfect, and move on. From this section in the book I learned that the key to success is determination and to not get discouraged when things don’t go as planned. Just remember what went wrong and fix it the next time.

Oh Yeah…….
When planning for differentiated instruction there are 3 components to be considered:
- Student characteristics
There are 3 student characteristics that may indicate that a change needs to be made in curriculum, or instruction. They are as follows:
     - Readiness
     - Interest
     - Learning Profile: the way a person learns best
     - Curricular elements
     - Content
     - Process (activities)
     - Product: evidence of what a student has                 learned
     - Instructional Strategies

Yeah But…….

In the textbook the author talks about how Ms. Johnson needs to balance her student’s different learning styles and abilities, with the curriculum. I understand that, both things are very important. But how can a teacher possibly teach to each child individually and still fit everything in that the curriculum demands? Just the thought of trying stresses me out.
